forest around Brockenhurst it is filled with wildlife. Within half
a mile of your holiday home live deer, rabbits and foxes. All around,
are ponies, pigs and cattle grazing wild.
The forest is rich with bird-life. There are
trout in the Lymington River and sometimes otters can be seen.
The forest, although not heavily populated has many quaint
and pleasant villages to visit, such as Sway and Burley and
Bramshaw.
But the New Forest – William the Conquerer’s private hunting
domain – covers a large area, bounded by the Solent to the south,
the Avon to the west and a tributary of the Test to the north east. It
is filled with history and pleasant places to visit. Steeped in history
the forest contains many hidden gems, one highlight being a memorial stone
marking the spot where King William Rufus, William II of England, was shot
dead in the forest whilst out hunting.
